announcing spotzon - search for free shipping at amazon

Posted on June 18, 2007

I love Amazon. Free Super Saver Shipping is awesome. Amazon Prime is even more awesome. Unfortunately, searching for items that qualify for free shipping is not awesome. Between the Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Merchants, used items, and out-of-stock items, I get pretty frustrated trying to find things to buy that will ship free.

To solve that problem, I wrote Spotzon. It uses Amazon’s Web Services to search for just those items that qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime. I hope you enjoy!

For the coders out there, Spotzon is written in Rails and uses Amazon Web Services (REST) to do the searches. I’ve deployed it on an M Class Accelerator from Joyent. I’m using nginx as the web server, swiftiply as the proxy, and 5 mongrels running the application. Yes, it’s overkill.

Is this the Anoop that I had the great pleasure of meeting once upon a time at Birmingham Southern? I don’t even know if this is still a working web thing… Oh well, sorry to bother you.
